What will class be like?Well, I’m glad you ask that question!
A fun day of learning with hands on activities, like sobriety tests with “Drunk Goggles” on, Road Sign Bingo with AWESOME prizes (like candy, fidget toys, play-do, silly putty, Hot wheels, funny glasses and lots more). We will watch several driving related videos on the importance of no drinking & driving, no texting & driving and no playing when behind the wheel of a car and what can happen if you do these things (don’t worry, the videos are short but very educational).
Student’s will take a test. OK…don’t start to worry, it’s a practice test and the student will grade his/her own paper, the instructor will not see or record anything from the test. We will go over each question (some with illustrations from our Hot wheels collection on our magnetic board). If anyone has questions, or comments, we would love to hear them, so do not be bashful or worried about speaking aloud during class. Our instructors love questions about driving!
The instructor will go over Rules of the Road, what to do when preparing to drive (how to set up the car for each driver; seat, mirrors, etc.), what to do in certain situations (construction/work zones, traffic accidents, emergency vehicles approaching, school zones and school bus stops), Traffic Signs (what do the mean?), how traffic lights work (left turn yields on green, turn arrow/no turn arrow, etc.) and many more important driving rules and regulations.
We will talk about what your Driving Sessions (a total of 6 hours, completed in two 3-hour sessions) will be like. Please do not be nervous about your driving sessions, that 3 hours will go by fast and we promise you will enjoy your session! Our Certified Driving Instructors (which you can check out on “Meet the Team” tab on the homepage) have been trained to insure you are a safe and cautious driver, know the rules of the road and how to follow them safely but also to enjoy your driving experience. Driving Sessions will be scheduled at the end of class, you will know the instructor you will be driving with and the date, time and place of pickup for your driving sessions before you leave class. Please know your schedule (church, school, sports, work, etc.) for the next 2-3 weeks prior to class to ensure your driving sessions can be scheduled that day.
And of course, lunch, everyone’s favorite time of school! We will order pizza from Lil’ Caesars, pepperoni and cheese. D4L offers students cold drinks; bottled water, soda during class. You are also welcome to bring your lunch, drinks or snacks for class (if your lunch needs to be refrigerated, just let the instructor know and we will gladly place it in the refrigerator for you).
